이 책은 영화 한 편이 만들어지기까지의 선택을 보여준다. 완성된 영화와는 다른 대사, 현장에서 바뀐 장면이 곳곳에 남아 있다. 그 차이를 따라가다 보면, 하나의 이야기가 완성되기까지 어떤 판단이 오갔는지가 보인다.

A screenplay book for The Man Who Lives with the King, a film that is continuously rewriting Korean box office history with record-breaking audience numbers, is being published.

The story follows seventeen-year-old Lee Hong-wi (Park Ji-hoon), who is exiled to Cheongnyeongpo in Yeongwol after being dethroned, and Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hae-jin), the head of Gwangcheongol village who voluntarily chooses exile in hopes of revitalizing his community. As they meet, they become a source of hope for one another.

This book includes the complete final shooting script used during production, allowing readers to explore not only lines and scenes that differ from the finished film, but also the characters’ expressions and inner emotions hidden within the stage directions behind the performances.

In addition to the screenplay, the volume features a newly written foreword by writer Hwang Seong-gu and director Jang Hang-jun, a storyboard of the ending sequence presented shot by shot, and handwritten signatures and messages from twelve members of the cast, including the director.

The design is inspired by the traditional bound format of on-set scripts used during filming, enhanced with newly created patterns unique to this edition. The use of classical-style typography and paper reminiscent of hanji evokes the atmosphere of an old manuscript. Notably, following the storyboard section, a fold-out page features Cheongnyeongpodo, a Joseon-era landscape painting depicting the place of King Danjong’s exile, allowing readers to unfold a glimpse of the real historical setting and linger in its emotional resonance.
